Rants, News and Whatnot

June 15th, 2011 This will be the last update on this page for this comic! I am not stopping, but I am moving it to my own webspace! CK will now be located HERE ON LADYYATEXEL.COM! Please come over! It's not complete yet, but what's there is working quite well. Love, LYX

Wednesday, April 29th, something like a year later - It seems that whatever problems the site had just fixed themselves, or else the browser updates corrected themselves. It took me a long time to find where I had put the files to update the rant/news box. Someday, I'll be better at HTML and I'll learn how to make the layout of this place not an auto generated one.

The comic has been updating, just not on any kind of real schedule. It's still MWF, it's just MWF whenever I get around to it, unfortunately. Very fortunately, though, is that I am always in love with this story, so I don't expect to abandon it for any particularly long length of time. I make general announcements of when I'm going to update on my LJ, or on the journal on dA. I'm doing the pages digitally now, and they're still wavering about between looking great that way, and looking cheap that way - pardon me while I experiment. Since they're all digital though, I think we might be able to expect to add one more criteria for a colored page: "Whenever I think it would be fun."

The Demonzara arc is almost finished, it just has a few more pages to go, and then we get into Hades' head for an arc heavy on his POV, and have some fun with Kajyan. This next one also focuses mostly on people we already know, with the addition of three or so smaller characters that we've only seen or only named, so there shouldn't be a lot of 'Wait, who the hell is that?'. I know the Demonzara arc was kind of a confusing thing to read through, but I wanted to make it that way so that you guys had just about as much knowledge as the characters involved. Hades begins to sort things out for himself soon, and we'll get to be sorted out with him.

Thanks for checking in, guys!

Someday, June 5th - I'm having some technical difficulties with the website, as I'm sure anyone visiting me as noticed. This very news box likes to eat the navigation buttons and now my comics aren't even showing, so there's some issues afoot. Anyway, comics, when I make them, are most often put up on my LJ when I can't get them to load here. The link is up at the top bar there under the logo. I'll get a tag made up so you don't have to root through my personal life to find them while I try and assess the damage here.

For those of you wondering what I'm working on instead of updating this like a mad thing, that is probably best witnessed at ladyyatexel.com.

Monday, December 24th - Hi there, everyone! Finals month is finally over, and I'm back on the East Coast. I'll be here with no job and no school for almost a month, so updates should finally return to normal! I feel so bad about missing those when they were supposed to be up, but we're up to date now. I'm gonna try to get a decent buffer up while I'm here - starting, of course, with getting a page done over all this holiday business. Eh, we'll see.

Really cool, though, is that the page that goes up on the 31st will be my 100th page! It's got the same color thing going on in it as these ones, but it'll be actually colored underneath all the effects. So Sarah's hair will actually look darker than her skin, etc. The only reason these most recent ones HAVE been colored is that I don't think I can render darkness and fire well at all in Micron. This is also why many of them havent been shaded with the pen - I was concerned abotu how much light they would actually have to cast said shadow, but I think it might not have hurt anything to have them. For the next ones, I imagine.

Thanks for sticking around, if you did. Actual not sucking at updating should be resuming from here on out. (At least until my Spring Term finals.)

Sunday, December 2nd - Greetings, guys. Sorry about Friday - I had some internet issues and lots of projects for school got in the way of getting the page uploaded prior to the outage. It's here for you now, and hopefully I'll be able to get Monday's squeezed out too (if that's the case, and you're here on Monday and not seeing Pandora, Anukis and June on the top of the page, you need to head back a day, dude). I've currently got three really demanding art projects that need attention until they're all due at various points this week. I'll do my best to make sure you get your comics for the week, even if some of them come on wonky days. I get shipped across the country on the 21st of this month, and thus starts my illustrious winter break, so it's only a few weeks of this balance act and dubious schedule.

I trust you all know the 'finals' feeling, whether you have to draw 12 pages of a book, paint three water color scenes and construct three giant pencil goddesses or not.

Friday, November 16th - ComicGenesis has been pretty buggy this week - if you missed Wednesday's page, go check that out. And yes, Friday is a two-fer - I can't stand when other comics give me more than one page of no dialog so I didn't do it to you guys. God, I'm so nice.

Updated the cast page to be sectioned off into arcs. The one for this current arc is kinda sparse at the moment, but will fill up as Demonzara does her thing. And yes, she actually does mention her own name soon. I'm wondering if I should put heads up for people who were in the last arc as well. Maybe not so much for this one, but in the next couple. These people start to change pretty rapidly.

Either way, it's up there. It's not much to look at, but now the crazy cat ladies have spaces of their own. The little dropdown thing still works, which is nice. I keep wanting to put the names of the other arcs in there already.

Friday, November 2nd - I finished Monday's page today. It's number 75. It feels very important. Maybe because of who's in it, maybe because of what it starts, maybe because of the number or the color. Regardless, I have never been happier to work on this thing than when I look at that page.

I was scared, looking at it and thinking about what we used CK for back in the day. I wonder, if now that I'm somewhat more reasonably adjusted, if it will stop being what I need in the form that it is/was in. I guess I mean if I need the blood and violence and agony that is coming ever so swifty anymore. We must've needed it back then - there was nothing anyone could do that wasn't loaded with blood and violence.

Everyone paid blood toll.

I maybe that's why the stories we do now - the ones written ten years after what you're seeing now - are a little more - Well, maybe they're not. I was going to say that they're more interpersonal drama than violence everywhere, but I take it back. We doing nice easy drama now because we did the bloodiest nastiest arc ever right before it.

Heh. Maybe I still need it this way afterall.

In other news, it's conceivable that I'll be moving to, or be mirroring on, a section of ladyyatexel.com come sometime December-ish, when my good friend Mab is getting her own hosting stuffs. Then there will come a layout and such of reckoning, I imagine. I don't know if we'll ever be getting one other than the generated one here. It is difficult to even think about making a webpage layout when I spend hours making the pages. It's madness.

Oh, well. People will be bleeding regardless.

Sunday, September 30th - Sup, internet? Well, lessee what I've got here. I added a dropdown thingy that isn't terribly useful now, but will be once these story lines start stacking up. Everything up until now was like 'the beginning'. I am harkening back to Kingdom Hearts 2 when it was ten hours before you saw the name of the game on the screen.

Also, you will notice that suddenly some kinda shading has shown up on the pages. I decided to stop fooling myself into thinking that I'm going to go back and color every one of these suckers, so I'm hatching the ones I don' t color.

This is more commonly known as the "I Have to Take a Math Class in Art School Effect". Take that as you will.

I'm also going to go ahead and put the boat kids up on the cast page, and ZANVIA, who is the spooky cat woman this mini arc is named for. Hades and company do not find out her name until sometime in the middle of next month. SPOILERZ GUYZ.

Some day, if I really hate myself and have all kindsa free time, I'll make that dropdown thing go to every page or something. Maybe.

AND SOMEDAY I WILL GET THE DAMN BANNER IMAGE DONE SO MAB CAN MAKE ME SOMETHING PRETTY FOR THIS PLACE. Yar.

Friday, September 14th - I thought I'd just add a note here to say that if the pages appear to not update for some mysterious reason, do try hitting the F5 or some other kind of refresh to spur it along. Apparently our new wonderous server is still giving us some bugs and this is one of them.

I added the archive pages. It's sort of a crappy one, really. It's just the auto calendars, but it's there. They look different on my home laptop than they do on PNCA's Macs, so I'm wondering what kind of other differences there are. I also ran into a hiccup in the archives on those computers. Kajyan and Anya's first color page, when one hits next, just jumps right to the latest page. Which is not so bad now, but later on will be sad sad sad. I don't know if this is just the case on those computers or what, because I don't seem to be getting it on mine. I suppose I'll ask at the forums if it gets bad or something.

It's kind of cute how I imagine people are reading this.

-LYX

Monday, September 3rd - I told myself I would color big important events, new characters and milestones. All of those happened on page 50, which is Friday's page. So soon after finishing today's, you cannot know how angry I was that I had to color that jungle again.

Updated the cast page to include Kajyan and Anya. I debated about the kids on the boat, but since their names haven't been used yet, (and that there's one more) I think I'll wait until that happens and then I'll use that as a cue to formally cast page them.

My next projects for the page are to put up an archive page (yay, easy keen tags), and once this current arc finishes, make a dropdown bar. I'll probably put up an 'oldnews' button or something as well, because I am nothing if not a whore for archiving. Thinking of having a gallery here other than the dA one, and putting my dA along with GypsyLynn's and other stuff in a 'links' section.

Updates are going to be just M/W/F for a while. I don't really like them like that, but there's this school thing I keep doing. And this 'girlfriend' person I keep hanging around with. I'm trying to get a decent buffer ready, but my own laziness astounds me. I'm keeping the update at midnight Eastern Time, even though I'm not on that coast right now. It's just easier for me to check on it now. I'm rarely up until midnight on this coast, so I can check on it when it updates at my 9PM. This also prevents confusing the 8 people who read this.

More later, I'm sure.

Saturday, August 17th - So I totally forgot I set the comic to update over the weekend! I'm trying out a 'not really daily, but sort of in the middle' schedule. I thought I'd update on the weekends, because nothing else does, and I find myself wishing it was Monday so I could read new web crap. So I thought I'd see how that felt. It feels like my buffer being digested, at the moment, but oh well, this is what I've done, I guess.

- LYX

Saturday, August 11th - I got the Shoutbox to work! You're going to pretend that it was by my magical HTML-fu and not a total accident. Do post in the box if you get a moment - about a page I posted, or about update schedules or about color, or about the extinction of the dinosaurs if you must. I feel like I can have a nice spot for feedback and such here now, so I'm really excited. Perhaps my partner in crime will post there as well.

-LYX

Monday, August 6th - Well, the week of straight updates is over, and I'm finding that most people, myself included, were really into it. My fingers are not as into it, however. I'd still like to do daily, but I feel like this will be even less likely when I head back to school at the end of this month. We shall see.

Either way, two color pages! The one right after this one is in color too! Truly you are amazed. I really like how the colored pages look, but I don't enjoy coloring on photoshop nearly as much as I do with markers, and to do this whole comic only on paper suitable for markers would be really expensive. So I'm sticking with 'big event/new characters' for colored pages. Today's pages visually introduce Peter and Chris, so I've finally let all the links to the cast page reflect the updated one. Pandora's even on there, and she didn't get named 'in comic' yet. She will, eventually. Honestly, I just wanted nice even tables on the page, and for the pairs of best friends to be next to each other, so she had to go somewhere.

When this all starts to get moving, and arcs start changing and such, I'm wondering if I should make cast pages for each separate arc. So that this current cast page (or the page it will become once this arc is over) will be the first option among many when you click the cast page. Other wise, it's going to start looking like a small town in there. The other option was to have no cast page, which is how they roll in Jack (open that in a new window, otherwise you'll see Jack's very WebMA site stuck here in the box instead of my ramblings, and it may take forever to go away. Someone teach me how to make it open in another window of its own accord.), but I find that as a reader who doesn't buy the dead tree versions of the comic, and who didn't vulture around in the forums, I don't always remember who everyone is. I really super enjoy Jack, but casual browsing of the forums seems to tell me that I need to buy things and hunt down all sorts of other threads, and know all of the author's other works and webpages, which are never openly linked to to find out all this super seeeeekret infomation, and that's not cool to me. So I don't want to do that to people here - I've got at least 8 more people that are going to show up before the end of this first run. (It stays that way for a little while, thankfully.) It might be fun to watch certain characters grow up in the rows of cast pages anyway.

There you have it, my brain explosion for the day.

-LYX

Wednesday, August 1st - Man, CG, you are hilarious. The DAY I decide to complain about my updates not working automatically, but working manually, they STOP working manually. If I didn't hate the idea of coding everything in the known universe, I'd be hosting this baby on my storage server thing, ladyyatexel.com. Seriously.

In other news, I totally love how it feels to have this update everyday, but I'm still going to let the updates run thrice a week next week. Just to see if re-getting my bearings makes a difference. Also, I'm trying to get a shoutbox set up over ---> there. You know, in that blank space? Yeah, even with Dreamweaver, I'm apparently brutally retarded and can't get it set up. I want one so much so it doesn't feel like I'm talking to myself when I post here. So I can go "HEY, how do I do it?!" and get wisdom from the box.

Anyway, while I'm not sure if I'll be daily, I think I've decided on the color/no color situation. From now on, I'm thinking that only introductions of new characters/big events will be colored pages. This also means that I can be less ambiguous with the B/W stuff, since I know it doesn't all have to be ready to color someday.

Whew, watch me bitch for hours!

-LYX

Wednesday, July 25th - So on Friday (or is that Saturday?) starts the daily run of these things. This includes weekends, yes, for a week, to see how I handle it. The week after that will be a normal 3 days a week style thing, until I figure out how I felt about all my buffer being eaten in a few days. I'm going to start work on some kind of ghett-TML to get a cast page in the works, because by next week, we'll be introducing 5 new folks, and it'd be good to get a primer set up now, ja? I think I'm going to start plugging this thing a little harder now that there's actually something in the archives to read. We'll see what happens. Thanks, dudes.

-LYX

Monday, July 9th - According to the CG forums, the new server is working so the outages should be done. Also, come the end of this month, I'm going to experiment with how I feel doing this thing daily. Lots of experimenting in the near future. Page 20 is even in MIND BLOWING COLOR. Eventually, I'll have something settled. Luckily, there aren't many people here to deal with it.

-LYX

Thursday, June 28th - As the three of you who read this thing at the moment might know, ComicGen is getting a new server in response to the insane amount of outages in the last few weeks. I have no idea if it's already up, or is in the coming days going to rain down some sort of kilobyte based justice, but until then, know that if this beast does not update M/W/F at Midnight Eastern Time, it is not my fault. Also, I apparently uploaded the soundeffect-less version of Wednesday's page. Good times.

Tuesday, June 19th - This is my news block, apparently. I'm in the process of getting this crazy website looking a little less autogenerated, despite that I'm using a generator to do just that. While I learn how to actually makes pages presentable, I'm constructing this little lovely.

For now, as far as finding out about me, or contacting me, or seeing other crap I've done, head to my deviantART site. Once this is a little less generated, I'll get some links up to my co-conspirator's home base as well, but it's best to experiment with just a little at first, I think.

Please bear with me while the pixels settle.
